From a derelict chicken processing factory site, to a modern, multi-function storage facility near Felixstowe, Suffolk, Anchor Storage has grown to serve the requirements of hundreds of businesses worldwide over the years.
Third generation warehouseman, Stephen Britt, is now at the helm of the business and to celebrate its 20th anniversary he has unveiled a new look for the company. He explains how the business has developed over the years: "In 1987 we moved into our new Suffolk premises which was previously a chicken processing factory and measured less than half the size it is now. Over the past twenty years we have steadily grown to treble in size. We now employ 22 local people and cater for a wide selection of businesses from multi-national retailers to individual traders."
Anchor Storage not only has standard, flexible storage warehouses, they also specialise in chilled, frozen and organic storage. Stephen continues: "We are proud to be accredited by the Soil Association, even though this is not a legal requirement for storing organic products we wanted to show the industry how high our standards were. We now store organic goods for a number of major wholefood/ organic retailers and supermarkets that rely on our uncompromising standards to ensure their produce leaves our facility in exactly the same condition as when it arrived."
More recently, Anchor Storage has moved into the field of pick and pack for internet entrepreneurs, capitalising on the eBay phenomena by providing international businesses with a UK base. Stephen explains: "We are capable of handling very large orders of all sorts of products here at Anchor Storage, from rugs and tents to bikes and wickerwork. No matter what the shape or size we can store bulk orders and then pick, pack and distribute individual items as required across the UK. With developments in technology over the past 20 years we have been able to introduce new systems for ambient storage, implemented electronic stock control systems and we are now embracing online technology and will shortly launch an innovative online stock management system to allow customers to view their stock holding on our premises."
Stephen concludes: "Over the years we have seen a massive variety of products go through our warehouses, from the every-day to the extraordinary. No matter what the shape, size or storage requirements we have been able to meet the needs of a diverse range of companies from one-man operations to large multi-nationals over the past 20 years and intend to continue doing so for many years to come. Our new logo signifies a new era for Anchor Storage as we build for a brighter future."
